The Toolbox worked this time and the update was done, my last update on the three year subscription. The Toolbox told me that I had ONE update available and would I like to do this now? Yes, I would, and did. I'm thinking, bonus! I can get a new card and have another three year period of updates right? Wrong! After swapping out the old 'bad' card at the Mazda dealer and driving the required 63 miles to mate the card to my car, I attempted the update again. They investigated and told me that my card had somehow gone 'bad' and that I can stop by my nearest Mazda dealer for another card. I contacted Mazda Connect customer service. The cad was not updating to the newest version.

I attempted to run the update and the Toolbox told me that it was successful but when I told the Toolbox to check the card that it has supposedly just updated it told me that I had the previous version installed and would I like to install the newest version? I just did this but I told it to go ahead anyway. It's 2019 and I was nearing the end of my Nav subscription and the Toolbox specified that I had one update left. (the CX and MX have the same infotainment systems and the same firmware versions, the original versions in my case)

I mentioned this before but this seems to be a good place to mention it again.Īs I said above, my 2016.5 CX-5 came with Nav from the factory. But I have been updating both SD cards all along, the original and the copy-the Mazda Toolbox let me update both (one following the other), both SD cards giving the same results in SD Diagnostics. I used only the copy in my ND, keeping the original Nav SD card stored at home. And I'm thinking even the Nav company nor Mazda has the database/licensing stuff working correct.Īs if all that isn't TLDR and confusing, I made a digital copy of the original Mazda Nav SD card shortly after buying my ND.

"Factory License = Visteon BHP1 66 EZ1F Doesn't expire, INVALID !" There are also confusing other lines in the SD Diagnostics report about Mazda's and Visteon's licenses, including this line (or others, similar): After: SD alone apparently locks the card. Before: SD+VIN apparently locks the card. īut one thing I notice is the distinct difference between 'Locking Sequence' before vs. "Diagnostics Complete = SD card is Invalid !Įven with that curious 'invalid' indication, I was able to apply 2 updates successfully, later, and it continued to report expiration. After a successful update, my Nav SD card showed this in Toolbox, after running SD diagonstics: SD card license matches with above VIN number = YES" May 2019, after 'MapCare Program', the SD Diagnostics in the Toolbox reported this: SD Card license matches with above VIN number = YES PRIOR to May 2019, when they instituted 'MapCare Program', the SD Diagnostics in the Toolbox reported this:

In looking back at screen shots of running diagnostics on my existing Nav SD card, I find several statements in the diagnostic results, as follows: I'm thinking perhaps, but assume it wouldn't work. Whether a new SD card might be allowed to be updated. In total, I updated my SD Nav card database 6 times in 2.6 years, before the original owner's 3 year license expired.

Your free map update period has expired, click on "Buy Content" to purchase." All available map updates have already been installed. "There is no new map update available for your device: There's been no indication on any screen about number of updates.Īn aside: knowing my expiry was, I checked for updates one last time on (a week before actual expiry). ^Other than the 'released in webstore' date updating over time, the above remained the message every time I'd check Available Updates until expiry. Map update subscription expiration date: " On another screen I captured May 2019 (following Mazda Toolbox's changeover to something called the 'MapCare Program'), screenshots showed exactly this:Īvailable update version: 3 year map update subscription I've no idea how it picked that date, perhaps the date was automatically assigned onto the SD card the moment it passed 100km with my car's VIN? The screenshots I took show exactly this: My first time updating it, I found that the Mazda Toolbox had assigned it's license start date as. I've no idea whether the prior owner had logged in and updated/registered it. When I picked up my 2017 ND, the prior owner had bought the SD Nav card only 4 months prior.
